Sustainability

COMMITTED TO THE ENVIRONMENT AND PEOPLE

Sostenibilidad
We are part of a unique ecosystem

The Iberian pig, its natural environment and the people who live in it form a unique ecosystem. Mafresa has been operating in this area for over 25 years.

The quality and authenticity of our products is only made possible by sustainable processes, being environmentally friendly and putting in place measures that are more stringent than the legal standards for our food products and processes. We also strive to minimise our carbon footprint and we always put our workers and society at the heart of our policies.

Environmental sustainability

We are a company that is committed to protecting and preserving the environment.

Working in Extremadura's environment, we manage to preserve our holm and cork oak woodlands, creating a sustainable life cycle. Natural resources are not infinite and we can only fulfil our goal and bring the world authentic Iberian products if we are sustainable and eco-friendly. In Mafresa we prioritise local raw materials, thus minimising our carbon footprint.

Therefore, we are committed to continuously improving our resource management and waste disposal, paying close attention to packaging and preservation and optimising the distribution and transportation of our products.

Sustainability of the economy and employment

Ever since Mafresa was established in 1993, we have wanted to be drivers of the region's economic development and we have kept all of our processes on site. We have also created 300 direct jobs and numerous indirect jobs.

The people who work in Mafresa are our biggest asset and we benefit from their experience and commitment. Our suggestion management system ensures their involvement in improving our processes and products.

Sustainability in Mafresa's culture

If sustainability is an inherent part of Iberian pork production, in Mafresa we want to go further. We are part of a large group that ensures that our production model complies with the regulatory requirements for biosecurity and the animal welfare regulations. To demonstrate this, we have certified our facilities according to the Welfare Quality animal welfare standard, which is more stringent than the current legislation.

We are part of the One Health World Summit and we have incorporated the 2030 sustainable development goals into our management. Conducting business responsibly, with integrity and high ethical standards and levels of transparency is not a requirement, it is a commitment and philosophy that we stand by.

Feeding the future

Our CSR activities for society

Our CSR activities for society
We add value to the communities in which we operate

Society places its trust in Mafresa and, out of gratitude, we want to contribute towards the development of science and technology and the progress of our society. Therefore, we play an active role in the board of trustees of the Jesús Usón Minimally Invasive Surgery Centre; we support and sponsor the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation's summer university and we help to develop internships with several universities and training institutes.
